Everyone enjoys the summer sunshine although bright light can cause visual problems with glare and invisible UV rays can potentially harm the eyes.

If you wear glasses then prescription sunglasses are less of a luxury and more of a necessity, especially when on holiday. Andrew King Optician has a large range of quality sunglasses which can be made to your individual prescription. Sunglass frames are often a little larger than usual in order to give more protection. The lenses combine full UV-blocking with effective  protection against sun-glare. Prescription sunglasses are available with single vision, bifocal or varifocal lenses and of course, all our sunspecs can be worn with contact lenses. Children too, can be catered for in our range of prescription sunglasses.

A brief guide to sunglass tints:

• Brown    is one of the most popular colours for lens tinting. It has a warm appearance and can enhance contrast. It will reduce glare in most circumstances.
• Grey       along with brown, is one of the most popular lens tints. It has the advantage of not altering the appearance of colours. Grey tints will reduce glare in almost all circumstances.
• Yellow    lens tint can enhance contrast and some find it particularly suitable for driving.
• Green     lenses with a deep green tint can enhance the vision in outdoor sports like golf or bowling.

 

Transitions lenses These are fast acting variable tint lenses. Indoors they are virtually clear, however outside they rapidly darken and become as dark as conventional sunglasses. Transitions lenses also provide 100% protection against UV rays. Available in grey or brown tints.

Anti-Reflective This is a coating applied to spectacle lenses which almost completely eliminates distracting reflections coming off the lens surfaces. Computer users and night time drivers often find this a benefit. An anti-reflection coating can also improve the cosmetic appearance of spectacle lenses.
