DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONTACT LENSES

Soft Disposable Contact Lenses

These lenses look and feel like moist cling film and are generally very comfortable even after initial insertion. They are difficult to accidently dislodge from the eyes and dust seldom gets trapped under soft lenses.  Consequently, soft lenses are by far the most popular type of contact lenses available.

Soft lenses are available in two disposable options:

Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses

These lenses are also known as corneal lenses and have been in existence in differing forms, for many years. RGP lenses usually require an adaptation period in order to build up comfortable daily wear. They also require daily cleaning and overnight storage. Some wearers find RGP lenses have a long life and can give excellent clarity of vision.

Other Types of Contact Lens

Nowadays disposable soft and RGP contact lenses are available for people with astigmatism (toric lenses) and for people requiring both distance and near visual correction (multifocal contact lenses).
